London is not all work and no play. It’s work, play, and
classes too. International Issues
Reporting is one of three classes we’re taking this semester. Don’t let the
wordy title fool you, it’s actually an interesting topic. “London is our
classroom” and we will be visiting The Guardian,
BBC, and Condé Nast among others. Members of the
Mizzou Mafia will be speaking to us throughout the semester too – it really
exists!
The class goal is to compare British and American media. Top
three distinctions:
- British media is bawdy, biting, and smart.
- They tell (their upfront political bias version of) the truth and throw in some naked women just because.
- Whilst newspaper sales are plummeting in The States, here they prosper. Connection?
On the Strat Comm side of things, British adverts are
beautiful and clever. Underground is plastered full of them, and you actually
don’t mind. (But you do mind the gap…)
Cheers for CBS Outdoor and The Tube’s 150th
anniversary campaign, by the way. It’s brilliant. (We couldn't find any videos of
it, sadly.)
We’ll keep you updated on any more interesting things we
learn in class. A video upload is also in the works… Gonna grab some tea now. Speak
soon,
xx kerri
ps: shout out to Lindsey Wilson!
